Pads
Brake pad replacement
New pads only go on once the caliper is releasing properly.
See padsCalipers · from $175 each fitted
A caliper that will not fully release eats new pads in weeks and cooks the rotor. It gets found, and fixed, before any new parts go on.
Calipers rarely fail loudly. A piston corrodes in its bore or a slide pin seizes, the pad stays lightly clamped against the rotor, and the damage builds quietly: one wheel caked in dust, fuel economy slipping, and a pad worn to nothing on one side only.
Fitting new pads to a sticking caliper just pays for the same job twice, which is why every inspection we do checks each caliper for drag and leaks before we quote.
When one needs replacing, it goes on with new hardware, the system is bled, and the pedal is tested before a road test. Vehicles with electronic parking brakes get the motors retracted with a scan tool first.

How it gets done
Wheel off, caliper checked for drag, a seized piston or pins, and leaks. You see what we see before a quote.
New or remanufactured caliper with new hardware, and a hose replaced alongside it if it is swollen or cracked.
The system bled until the fluid runs clean with no air, so the pedal is firm rather than long.
Pedal test, leak check and a road test before the keys come back.
What it costs
Heavy-duty and European vehicles with electronic parking brakes sit in the right-hand column.
| Job | Most cars | Trucks, SUVs & vans | Heavy-duty & European |
|---|---|---|---|
| Caliper, each fitted | from $175 | from $205 | from $265 |
| Brake hose, each fitted | from $125 | from $145 | from $175 |
What could move it up: a bleeder screw that snaps, a hard line that crumbles when the fitting is loosened, or pads and rotors already ruined by the drag. All of it is checked and quoted before we start.
Straight answers
The giveaways are one wheel much dirtier than the others, a hot, sharp smell after a short drive, the vehicle pulling to one side, and pads worn out on one side only. We confirm it during the free inspection before quoting anything.
It is not something to leave. A dragging caliper overheats the pad, rotor and fluid, and hot fluid is how a pedal fades on a long hill. Book it in soon, and if it is grinding or the pedal feels soft, call rather than book online.
Not automatically. If one has seized and the other on that axle is the same age and already showing the same signs, we will recommend both and show you why. If the other one is healthy, you replace one.
Yes. Rear calipers with electronic parking brakes need the motors retracted with a scan tool before anything comes apart, and put back into service afterwards. That is covered in the job.
